In February 2026, Davis found itself in the grip of an unusually severe cold snap. On February 20, a polar vortex brought freezing temperatures to our community, prompting our local unhoused resource center, Paul’s Place, to send out an urgent SOS for cold-weather supplies.

Life of Kai jumped into action. The question was simple but urgent: how do you gather enough supplies in just a few hours before the freeze sets in?

A little community sleuthing led us to a group of generous church ladies who knit hats for charitable causes and social gatherings. Their quick response helped us secure 40 handmade hats almost immediately. At the same time, Life of Kai assembled and distributed 100 space blankets, 100 hand warmers, jackets, and other cold-weather essentials to help protect some of our community's most vulnerable neighbors during the freeze.
